Who will be the next Filipino Runway Pride at Project Runway Season 4?

I got a first glimpse of  15 designers' creation  for Project Runway Philippines Season 4 last May 27 at Green Sun, Makati. Their design was presented in a mini fashion show hosted by Cerah Hernandez and Project Runway Supermodel host-judge Tweetie de Leon Gonzales. International fashion designer Josie Natori graced the event with fashion luminary and runway mentor Jojie Lloren.

ETC launches the fourth season of Project Runway Philippines with 15 new, up-and-coming designers who have come from all over the Philippines – from Cebu to Tuguegarao, Davao to Koronadal, Samar to Quezon City – in the hopes of becoming the next global Filipino designer to conquer international fashion.

Jose Joy Chicano is my personal favorite among the 15 designers, I loved his deconstructed white and black ensemble it already drew attention from the audience.

Supermodel and fashion icon Tweetie De Leon-Gonzalez returns to the runway as host and judge, describing the fourth season of Project Runway Philippines as unexpected, fun, and more cut-throat than ever.

Famed A-list designer Rajo Laurel returns to the judges’ seat with the aim to help produce a new breed of young designers who can make it both here and abroad by sharing his knowledge about the business side of fashion.

Fashion and beauty expert Apples Aberin returns with her no-holds-barred comments, expecting to see vision, technical skills, a unique point of view, and a whole lot of drama.

Fashion luminary and runway mentor Jojie Lloren returns to the show with one goal in mind – to find the best designer in the history of Project Runway Philippines. Working closely with this year’s contenders, Jojie reveals that this season is probably the most exciting one ever.

From the sewing room down to the runway, fun, drama, surprises, and tough challenges await as contestants have their skills scrutinized, their creativity challenged, and their sensibilities tested in the search for a designer who can make it to the top.

Catch Project Runway Philippines Season 4 every Sunday starting June 14 at 8 pm only on ETC. ETC is available on Sky Cable 16, Destiny Cable 16, Cable Link 34, Cignal 9, Destiny Analog 28 and UHF 21. Enjoy an allergy-free active lifestyle with Claritin Reditabs

Allergy is like a thief in the night, it will catch up on you sooner or later when you least expected it.  I discovered mine in my teens, I nearly choked to death, my father rushed me to the nearest hospital and the doctor injected ampules of antihistamines and checked my body with patch hives. I was dizzy and felt hot.  I could not talk and had difficulty of breathing.  I gathered later that afternoon that I had allergy to crabs and shrimps. That was my first allergy  attack, and I was afraid of dear life, the doctor prescribed Claritin and advised to have it with me all the time.

As far as I could remember, I never left home without Claritin. I told myself I could live without crabs and shrimps. I forgot how delicious they are, it has been decades since I tasted them.  My taste bud never forgets but the discipline and the will to live longer is stronger than my food craving.

I only relied to doctor prescribed Claritin tablet, non drowse. Imagine my surprise when they launched the Claritin Reditabs. You just have to pop one tablet and it will dissolve in your mouth in seconds, no need water to drink it with. I have it with me now plus the Claritin tablet.

Loratadine (Claritin Reditabs) was launched last May 29 at Whitespace, Makati  together with its endorser TV Host, Actress Iya Villania- Arellano. Iya also suffers from allergy, but she still takes life by the horns and doesn’t let anything get in the way. So how does she do it?
“I believe allergies shouldn’t be an excuse to forgo an active lifestyle. The great outdoors is fun! There’s so much you can discover about yourself, your loved ones and the world when you’re out there. It was when I realized this that I decided to do everything I can to not let allergies control what I can and cannot do. I decided that I should always be ready,” Villania-Arellano said.

She is in the gym at least four times a week, does a mixture of core kinesis, Plana Forma and Power Plate. She also trains regularly to prepare for a roster of challenging triathlon events this year.

“This active lifestyle is a choice I had to make. After seeing how certain foods, combined with a sedentary lifestyle, affect my health and mood, I decided to take charge of my health. I definitely feel better than I did before,” she said.

But Villania-Arellano is still not immune to allergy attacks. “It catches up with me during the most unexpected moments. Once when I was on a trip, my allergy broke out because of pollen and I wasn’t able to act on it because I had no water with me. Allergy attacks strike even at home when I play with Drew’s pet. Good thing, I am now always ready by bringing a pack of Claritin Reditabs wherever I go,” she said.

Loratadine (Claritin Reditabs) is the same powerful Claritin millions have trusted in a new and revolutionary format. “Just peel off the foil and pop it in your mouth. This new and convenient format can be taken anytime, anywhere. No water needed! This non-drowse variant orally dissolves in seconds and leaves you with a fresh minty taste. And the effects last for 24 hours,” Villania-Arellano said.

“Living a healthy and active lifestyle is possible in spite of allergy attacks. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and of course, always be ready with a pack of New Claritin Reditabs,” she added.

In the Pink for Thomas Pink at Rustan's

Rustan's launches Thomas Pink last May 27 at Rustan's Dept, Store, Makati,  the epitome of traditional British shirtmaking brand for men– Thomas Pink. The launch was hosted by Victor Basa with guests from media.

Thomas Pink journey starts in London’s Jermyn Street, the home of traditional British shirtmaking, with its immaculate cut and finished, a Pink shirt is always the fitting beginning for an impeccable look. Now, who says real men cant wear pink?

Immaculately cut and finished, a Pink shirt is always the fitting beginning for an impeccable look.

This luxury clothing brand that originated in Jermyn Street, London started back in the 18th century, when a tailor named Mr. Pink designed the very iconic hunting coat. Although it was made of scarlet cloth, it was always referred to as “Pink” in honor of its originator.

Today, Thomas Pink carries on the name and tradition of Mr. Pink, crafting shirts that enshrine the British heritage of the iconic Pink coat.  From formal to informal, the luxury shirt brand offers shirts for every occasion with over 80 stores around the world – including Rustan’s.

This season, Thomas Pink channeled the grand tradition of British exploration, travelling the world as inspiration for the Spring/Summer 2015 collection. The Journey yielded a whimsical fusion of innovative fabrications and modern approach to conventional Jermyn Street styling while travelling to some of the most beautiful places on earth.

From patterns inspired by the mosaics of India, to the lightweight fabrics of tropical travel, to the saturated colours of South America, Thomas Pink blurred the lines between casual and formal turning traditional shirting designs of stripes and checks into a global celebration.

Thomas Pink’s seasonal wanderlust started with fabric. Lightweight constructions combine with fine yarns to create silky chambrays and superfine panama weaves. The emphasis on travel allowed the versatility of linen and linen/cotton mixes to fully shine.

For the new season, linen shirt styles include colour-saturated solids, bright tartan plaids and dark slubby solids; cotton/linen mixes feature washed stripes, while the fine Panama weave transitions into Spring in ice cream pastels. Chambray surprises in solids and butcher stripes which feel silky and gossamer light. Unlined jackets in linens, cotton, and chambray finish off a look which transitions effortlessly between casual and formal.

The theme that runs through the collection is versatility. These are shirts which will work hard, covering a myriad of occasions, whether worn open necked, or with a tie or rumpled under a cotton jacket.
Thomas Pink is exclusively available at Rustan’s Makati and Rustan’s Shangri-la.

Lost and pissed off spirits felt during production of "Poltergeist"

“Poltergeist” is director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) and producer Sam Raimi’s (“Spider-Man” trilogy) 3D, contemporary take on writer Steven Spielberg and director Tobe Hooper’s 1982 classic, about a family whose youngest daughter is abducted by a poltergeist shortly after moving to a suburban neighborhood. Starring Rockwell as down-on-his-luck former minor-league baseball player Eric Bowen, it’s the story of an ordinary family dealing with extraordinary circumstances. When these angry spirits abduct Madison, their six-year-old, Eric and his wife Amy [Rosemarie DeWitt] recruit a team of scientists and psychics – including the clairvoyant reality star Carrigan Burke (Jarred Harris) – to get her back.

“Poltergeist” updates an iconic brand, creating a classic haunted house tale that plays to our innermost fears.   It presents a family like ours, in a house like ours – but one that finds itself caught in an otherworldly trap. Both this year’s Poltergeist and the 1982 original give audiences a rollercoaster ride of thrills and fright with a story about the abduction of a family’s youngest child by supernatural and increasingly hostile forces. The rest of the clan then wages a gruelling battle to get her back safely.

Unlike the original “Poltergeist,” which was set in a comfortable economic time during the 1980s, this film is situated in the rapidly fading, disenfranchised American ideal we know as suburbia. A rundown, cookie-cutter community of three-bedroom homes, unkempt yards and chain link fences in an Illinois neighborhood sets the scene for the unsuspecting protagonists, the Bowen family.  It reminds audiences that life in suburbia can sometimes be a long way from comfort and safety.

The house itself embodies both light and darkness.  Initially, it is the saving grace for this hard-luck family, but it quickly turns menacing.   In “casting” the house, the production searched a wide area until they located the perfect one in a suburb in Hamilton, Ontario, a demographically diverse area.  According to production designer Kalina Ivanov, not only did the house chosen by the filmmakers embrace the “blandness of modern architecture,” it also included a familiar suburban color scheme – “a symphony of beige,” as she calls it.  Ivanov goes on to explain that the neighborhood had to have high-intensity power lines, which are integral to the film’s supernatural-themed plot.

However, even before the film’s production wrapped, the Poltergeist filmmakers experienced various unexplained occurrences during the making of the movie.

Sam Raimi explains: “The big open field directly behind the house caused us some grief.  Gil was drawn to this field because it was the only area untouched in the neighborhood, so it really stuck out.  However, that open space seemed to interfere with our on-set radio microphones, personal cell phone transmissions, and the signals between the drone cameras and their operators.  The drone would work perfectly everywhere else but would crash whenever it attempted to fly over this area.  It was a disconcerting feeling at best.”

Then there were the on-set “poltergeists” that plagued the production.  To deal with the unwanted visitors, the filmmakers called in Brenda Rose, a Cleveland-based seer who connects with the paranormal.  Rose uses a number of techniques to detect and cleanse a place from unwanted spirits.  “I help people navigate their lives in the most efficient way by insightful readings and that can look like a lot of things from numerology cards to personal energy,” she says.  “How spirits make themselves known changes from spirit to spirit; sometimes there's just something from the corner of your eye and other times it’s something actually trying to get your attention. When I'm in a session and open for spiritual business they can come from the left or right side. It ranges from organized chaos to just plain chaos, much like the family experiences in the movie.”

Tying directly to Poltergeist, Rose notes that, “usually when spirits get lost, they need a bit of guidance to find their way back to their destination.”

But Poltergeist’s other-world denizens are not your typical ghosts.  As Jared Harris’ character Carrigan Burke notes, “This isn’t just a few pissed off spirits we’re dealing with…”

“Poltergeist” (available in 2D and 3D) opens June 24 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Piolo Pascual shares tips for healthy eyes

Of all the good-looking men in the entertainment industry, Piolo Pascual is known to stand out from the rest. With just one look from those dreamy and mesmerizing eyes, he can make any girl swoon. But Piolo himself is quick to point out: Having beautiful eyes is not enough. One must have healthy vision as well because this will help you perform tasks and achieve your daily goals.

That’s what Piolo shared with media friends during the launch of “Seeing the World Better,” a public awareness campaign on the importance of good vision organized by Essilor, the world leader in vision solutions.

According to Piolo, “In my line of work as an actor, it is very important to read your co-actor’s facial cues properly in a dialogue, and you can only accomplish it with good eyesight,” he shared. “That is why eye care is a serious matter for me. Without good vision, we can only do so much, and this limitation can stand in the way of achieving our goals,” he added. Here, Essilor’s brand ambassador shares some important tips for healthy eyes:

Keep your eyeglasses on. “I am fond of surfing the internet through my mobile device, but I have learned that the blue light from electronic devices can harm our eyesight, so I always wear my eye lenses on,” Piolo shared. Harmful blue light is a risk factor for the onset of age-related macular degeneration, a deterioration of the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. To prevent its damaging effect, eye doctors recommend wearing lenses that effectively blocks the harmful blue light. Reading in a dark room should also be avoided. With only your mobile device as your main light, the glare on the screen can cause eye strain.

Follow a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. Eating a healthy, nutritious diet is beneficial to our eyes. Vitamins C, A and E, folic acid, selenium and zinc, which are present in fruits and vegetables, can make your eyes healthy. Have a daily dose of fruits and vegetables like grapes carrots, spinach, kale, or collard greens, for a clearer, better vision.

Keeping a healthy lifestyle can also be helpful to your eyes, and your overall health. Piolo, who is a known triathlete, maintains a healthy lifestyle by engaging in sports like swimming, biking and running. By maintaining healthy weight, it reduces the chance of getting eye diseases. According to National Eye Institute, being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing diabetes and other systemic conditions, which can lead to vision loss, such as diabetic eye disease or glaucoma.

Visit your optometrist regularly Piolo shared that he has 20/20 vision, but despite having perfect eyesight, he regularly sees an eye doctor to make sure his eyes are in good condition. Regular visits to an eye doctor are very important because it can pick up early signs of eye conditions. You need not wait for symptoms like headaches, dizziness, nausea and cloudy vision before visiting your optometrist. At the same time, eye check-ups may also detect most diseases, such as diabetes, arthritis, heart diseases, and even certain cancers, and can help cure or prevent these diseases from worsening over time. Make an appointment with your eye doctor once a year to keep your eyes and whole body healthy.

There you have it -- Straight from the man whose expressive, healthy eyes have captivated legions of admirers. By simply keeping these tips in mind, we can keep our precious peepers looking good and healthy and be able to perform our daily activities the best way we can.

Caltex "Fuel Your School" Program aims to hit the P5 million mark

Caltex launches Fuel Your School (FYS) campaign last May 25 at Caltex Mabini Station. Caltex is helping thousands of public high school students in Metro Manila for their (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics projects through the program.

From June 14 to July 15, 2015 gas up at any participating Caltex Station . For every 4-liter fuel purchase by motorists, a one peso donation is made  which aimed to hit the P5 million mark during the campaign month. This will be turned over to Caltex project partner  American Chamber Foundation of the Philippines (ACFP) that is tasked to qualify submitted project proposals as well as the purchase of qualified STEM classroom projects.

On the other hand, the Department of Education of the Philippines as FYS project partner shortlisted the 33 highest-need public senior high schools in Metro Manila as beneficiaries qualified to receive a maximum of P150,000 per school in STEM classroom materials.

“Caltex Fuel Your School strongly reflects our company’s continued commitment to education. I believe if you take a combination of quality school equipment, passionate teachers, and motivated students, that’s when education becomes very powerful. Through this project, we hope to further empower the teachers and spur the students’ interest to help them excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics,” adds Raissa Bautista, CPI manager for Policy, Government & Public Affairs.

“This program is a most welcome partnership with Caltex considering that the Philippines is about to implement the senior high school program next year where STEM is given equal importance along with other tracks. The donation answers our need for additional equipment to give adequate training and preparation to our students,” said DepEd Regional Director for NCR Luz Almeda.
FYS project partners estimate that at least 700 teachers and 9,000 students from the senior-ready public schools will benefit from the FYS program.

Driving FYS through Social Media
Aside from supporting the program via fueling at Caltex, the FYS partners also invite the public to help the schools by viewing and liking their favorite schools’ qualified projects as posted on the Caltex Philippines Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CaltexPhilippines or via www.caltexfuelyourschoolph.com .

The FYS leaderboard in the website will be regularly updated to reflect ranking of the projects that generated the most to least likes. Projects will be funded in the order of their July 15 leaderboard rank. The top three projects with the most number of fan likes at the end of the FYS campaign will each receive an additional brand new laptop as bonus prize.

The program also encourages social media users to help the schools get their STEM wish list by promoting their projects online. Chevron, for instance, has an ongoing FYS awareness volunteer campaign  among its employees, retailers and other business partners by urging them to create selfies and groupies using FYS props and posting them as their Facebook profile photos during the FYS campaign period and sending the FYS PH link so their own FB friends can also vote.

“It has been one of my dreams to see my students in a well-equipped laboratory room where they conduct experiments, manipulate the microscopes and discuss their findings. I’m just so glad this can become a reality through Caltex Fuel Your School,” said Cecilia Santiago, science teacher from M. Araullo High School in Manila.

ACF President, Edwin Feist shared “Caltex Fuel Your School is a wonderful program that helps bright and talented students who do not have sufficient funds to support themselves. We’re certainly delighted to work with Chevron in this innovative campaign to promote STEM education to local schools where assistance is highly needed,”

Caltex Fuel Your School is part of Chevron’s Energy for Learning Initiative, which supports educational programs that create opportunities for individuals to acquire new knowledge, gain new skills and be exposed to different ways of thinking.

For more information about Caltex Fuel Your School, visit http://www.caltex.com/ph/fuelyourschool or contact the FYS hotline at 399-2505. Vote and help promote a FYS classroom project via Caltex Philippines Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CaltexPhilippines.

Cartoon Network brings summer camp festival Toonfest 2015

Cartoon Network is home to best known and well loved cartoons such as Ben 10,  Adventure Time, and The Amazing World of Gumball.  The kids no.1 tv show once produced Powerpuff Girls Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup which I missed a lot but heard that Cartoon Network have plans of bringing it back next year, which is good news from Powerpuff Girls fans!

Finn and Jake are the two popular characters from Adventure Time, I hate to admit but despite my age I get to watch these two every weekends with my grandchild Finn, named after Finn the character. I loved how Finn and Jake (with his stretchy powers)  fights the evil together with Princess Bubblegum. Every episode teaches good life lessons for kids and adults as well.

Cartoon Network capped off their summer vacation just in time for the kids vacation with their TOONFEST 2015 last May 23 at SM Moa Music Hall. The festival showcased their favorite cartoon characters from Cartoon Network, now the number one kids' channel in the Philippines and hosted the free-for-all event treat for kids of all ages.

Now on its second year, Toonfest returned as a summer camp festival inspired by Cartoon Network’s hit shows. Kids and families engaged in activities including face painting, photo-booth selfies, arts and crafts, and many more.

Visitors had the chance to meet and greet the stars from the popular hit series Adventure Time, Ben 10: Omniverse and The Amazing World of Gumball. Live musical acts also filled the festival with music as participants danced and sang along to familiar Cartoon Network tunes.

It was the perfect send-off to a hot summer and many of the participants look forward to next year’s Toonfest. Cartoon Network Toonfest 2015 was supported by Wiggles, Johnson’s and Johnson’s Active Fresh; in participation with Swift Mighty Meaty and Nerf; and made possible by Appebon, Argentina Meat Loaf, and Jollibee. Special thanks to Cignal, SM Mall of Asia and Grab Taxi. For more details, visit the Cartoon Network Toonfest 2015: Philippines event page on Facebook or CartoonNetworkAsia.com.

TWG launches the world's most luxurious Iced Teabag Collection

My love of teas started 8 years ago, when my sister bought some expensive tea sachets from abroad. I loved how the vanilla/flower notes enveloped the room each time I made myself one.  The smell alone calms me.   Since then I have been buying and collecting teas, locally and or abroad, from loose leaves to flowers to teabags and put labels on them on a glass container. I have acquired the taste and surprised that I could distinguish one from another. From white to red, black, green and blue tea, yes there is a blue tea. I have loved them hot or cold without sugar. Surprisingly, my love of tea had some good effects on my health because of its antioxidant power, I lost considerable amount of weight which is good and had cut on sugar bingeing, my cravings for pork, sodas and artificial juices stopped and I managed to maintain the right weight for my height.  The tea thing works for me.  My skin cleared up too and discovered that my wounds healed faster with them. It has countless benefits  and If I have to calm myself with all the stress , one sachet of chamomile tea or lemon greentea would do.

I got the first taste of TWG teas at TWG Salon tea in Abu Dhabi Mall. I love the store interior and how the teas were lined up in colored tin cans. It was sort of library of teas from outside and the smell coming from the steeped teas alone were inviting. TWG is the high end of teas, the finest teas of the world.  This is one of my favorite brand, it does not come cheap,  but you get what you paid for.

TWG recently launched its most luxurious collection of 15 teabags especially crafted for the preparation of iced teas last May 21 at TWG, Tea Salon and Boutique, BHS. The tea salon offered all kinds of teas to the guests, from hot to cold. The place smelled of sweet vanilla notes, apples, and strawberries. It was indeed a haven of teas. I ordered french earl grey and had a cup of jasmine ice cream. The teas compliment their macarons.

The iced tea collection comes in fifteen varieties of whole tea leaves carefully proportioned and packaged for the expert preparation of delicious TWG iced
teas.

Luxuriously handcrafted with natural materials, every TWG Tea Iced Teabag contains the exact same handpicked, whole leaf teas retailed loose at TWG Tea Boutiques. The teabags are entirely hand sewn and are free from metal staples and glue which are detrimental to the quality and flavour of the tea. Made of light transparent silk and round in shape, reminiscent of the summer sun, TWG Iced Teabags are all handsewn and placed in TWG Tea packaging embossed with the name of the tea in gold lettering.

Each of the fifteen keepsake gift boxes enclose seven precious Iced Teabags, each containing 7.5 grams of tea perfect for a large carafe of iced tea.  TWG Tea has spared no expense in creating the ultimate iced teabag, demonstrating its deep-rooted commitment to quality and attention to detail.

This exceptional collection includes TWG Tea classics from TWG Tea such as the French Earl Grey, Eternal Summer Tea, Moroccan Mint Tea and Darjeeling,
as well as TWG Tea exclusive blends such as Sweet France Tea, Pink Flamingo Tea and Cocktail Hour Tea. Whether you are craving something sweet or in the mood for something light and tangy, TWG Tea’s Iced Teabag collection has carefully handpicked in this collection.

For the finishing touch, TWG Tea presents the perfect accompaniment - an Iced Tea Carafe series available in eight vibrant colours. Made of a very light Plexiglas, it is the perfect accessory to serve a refreshing glass of iced tea to delight and tantalise the senses of tea-drinkers everywhere. Carafes are retailed
